What is PROKERA®?

PROKERA® is an advanced treatment that works like a “healing bandage” for the eye.
It uses a thin layer of amniotic membrane tissue, which naturally reduces inflammation and promotes healing, held in place by a soft ring similar to a large contact lens.

How PROKERA® HELPS

  • Calms inflammation on the eye’s surface
  • Protects and heals damaged corneal tissue
  • Restores healthy cells and reduces scarring
  • Relieves pain, burning, and light sensitivity

Who Can Benefit

PROKERA® may be recommended for patients with:

  • Moderate to severe dry eye disease
  • Corneal damage or scarring
  • Keratitis or corneal ulcers
  • Chemical burns
  • Ongoing inflammation not improving with drops or other treatments

What to Expect

Step 1: Evaluation
Dr. Ruchita Shah will examine your eyes to see if PROKERA® is right for you.

Step 2: Placement
The device is gently inserted in the office, after numbing drops. It feels similar to a large contact lens.

Step 3: Healing Period
PROKERA® usually stays in place for 3–5 days, protecting and healing the eye. Blurry vision or mild discomfort is common but temporary.

Step 4: Removal & Follow-Up
The device is removed in-office, and your healing progress is checked.

Benefits You May Notice

  • Faster healing of the eye surface
  • Less pain, burning, and sensitivity
  • Clearer, more comfortable vision

Safe & Effective

  • PROKERA® is FDA-cleared and made from carefully screened, preserved tissue.
  • Side effects are usually mild (temporary redness, irritation, or blurred vision).
  • It should only be placed and removed by an eye doctor.

Take the Next Step

If dry eye or surface damage is interfering with your comfort or vision, PROKERA® may be the next step toward healing.
